Blind Spot(s): Navigating Multiple Identities

Blind Spot(s): Navigating Multiple Identities

sep 24, 6:00pm - sep 24, 8:00pm

Kongens gate 34, 7012 Trondheim, Norge Kart

We want to raise a discussion about what ‘identity’ means to different people. What is salient to people when they speak about who they are. For some people identity can be citizenship, race, education, occupation, sexual orientation, family role and these can alter over time under different circumstances. Some people have multiple identities as they could be multinational, multicultural, have different sexual orientations and fulfill different roles in the family and society simultaneously. Identities are related to intersectionality of experience, politics and the way people are perceived by the community. We aim to explore how we can navigate and use our different identity aspects in different situations to our benefit.
Our panelists:
Mina Saghafian: Researcher in the field of organizational psychology, a global citizen and interested in matters of diversity and multiculturalism and redefinition of identity.
Gulnara Nadamova: Interested in political transnational participation of refugees, globalization and social changes.
Miriam Ganaah: Ghanaian based in Trondheim, interested in the topics of diversity and integration.
Tonje Moser: Queer Butch, activist and journalist, interested in queer activism, gender theory and dismantling society as we know it!
Moderator: Agata Kochaniewicz, anthropologist, activist, Polish, interested in the topics of mobility and migration, currently in Trondheim context.
The Blind Spot(s) is a project consisting of monthly discussion panels, starting in September. The idea of the project is to shed light on the less explored and less discussed issues in the local community. The spots that will be mapped on the social landscape are matters of identities, diversity, multiculturalism, (mis)representation, overt and covert racial stereotypes. All discussions will be announced and open to the public (according to pandemic regulations). Both the participants and guest speakers will be local people who are knowledgeable about the topics and we can all learn with.
